The Australian dancer Steven McRae is the principal of the Royal Ballet. He joined the Royal Ballet School with a scholarship from the Prix de Lausanne in 2003. He graduated from the Royal Ballet in 2004 and was promoted to the first artist in 2005, soloist in 2006, the first soloist in 2008 and the main in the main one in 2009.

McRae was born in Sydney and trained with Hilary Kaplan and Royal Ballet School. He won the Gold Medal Adeline Genée 2002 and the Prix de Lausanne 2003. His roles with the Royal Ballet include the entire classic repertoire and main roles in works of choreographers including Frederick Ashton, David Bintley, William Forsythe, Kenneth Macmillan, Alastair Marriott, Wayne McGregor, Liam Scarlett and Christopher Wheeldon. His creations of roles include Magician/Mad Hatter (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland), Jack (Sweet Violets), Sandman (Hansel and Gretel), Florizel (The Winter's Tale), Emble (The Age of Anxies), Creatures (Frankenstein) e Roles in Three Songs - Two Voices, Children of Adam, Chroma, Acis and Galatea (Royal Opera), 24 Preludes, The Human Seasons, TetraceTtys, Connectome, Woolf Works, Multiverse, Illustrated 'Farewell' and Yugen.

McRae performed as a guest artist with companies including American Ballet Theater, National Ballet of Canada, Australian Ballet, Tokyo Ballet and in numerous international gala. The prizes of him include the 2006 Emerging (Classical) emerging and the Best Male Dance Awards in 2011 at the Critics' Circle National Dance Awards. In 2014 you were appointed Young Australian Achievever in the United Kingdom by Australia Day Foundation.
